Golden Oldies Day Out
‘Echoes of Love’ have identified that the older members of society have needs that this project may meet. Many of the aged do not live in old age homes, some living with family and others living alone. The difficulty that often comes with old age means that many are unable to interact socially and have thus become isolated. ‘Echoes of Love’ seek to correct this wrong. This project will identify a day in every month that will bring the aged together allowing them to interact with others using us as facilitators thus eliminating the burden of needing to be cautious because of health considerations. Our team will provide escorts to assist those who are unable to go out alone due to physical constraints. An indoor and outdoor activity is proposed realising that preferences differ.
BACK IN TIME AT THE MOVIES – A cinema will be booked for an afternoon show and an arrangement will be made with management that an old movie be screened. 10 proposed movies will be offered and the group will vote for their preference ensuring that the most popular movie is selected. Each member of the group will be investigated beforehand to make sure that individual needs are met. These can include medication, walking aids, dietary requirements and any other specific needs that need to be met in order to ensure that our guests remain carefree for the entire day. Transport will be arranged for the guests and for the group of escorts. These escorts will be trained beforehand to ensure that they are well aware of how to go about their role as caregivers. The movie will then be followed by a meal or ice-cream. This part of the day will be designed to provide a way for guests to interact with each other with the hope that friendships be forged thus taking many away from the isolation they may have become accustomed to.
LET’S GO TO THE PARK – The outdoor activity will be a day in the park with a variety of activities to occupy the interests of our guests. Escorts will be entrusted to ensure that the guests do not wonder away from the cordoned area where we will be situated. Tables will be set up offering a variety of activities that should appeal to every taste, cards, board games, general knowledge contests, art and beadwork – the list is endless. Our guests will be spoken to beforehand to learn what it is that they would like to do for fun. This will allow them the freedom to create their own day and fill it with ways to break free from the isolation that shadows over many. Lunch will be provided as our escorts set up braai facilities. Each guest’s dietary requirements will be met ensuring that those who cannot eat braai meat are still provided for.
